A “high velocity, low amplitude” controlled force applied to a spinal joint which is fixed/not moving. The goal of chiropractic adjustment, also known as spinal manipulation, is to correct structural alignment and improve your body’s physical function caused by spinal joints not moving correctly. There may be a “popping” sensation felt with an adjustment but don’t worry it is not your bones cracking it is simply a release of gas vapour bubbles from within the spinal joint!
Low-level laser therapy is a medical treatment that uses low-level lasers to alter cellular function. It improves tissue repair and reduces pain and inflammation wherever the red or near infra-red light beam is applied. Low level laser should be applied two to three times a week to improve soft tissue healing and relief for acute and chronic pain. Treatments usually last about 10-15 minutes and are completely painless.
Conditions best treated with Low Level Laser Therapy include:
– Sprains and Strains
– Joint pain and injuries
– Ligament and tendon injuries
– Bone fractures
– Acute and chronic pain
KinesioTaping is unique and fundamentally different to other sports taping techniques. Using a highly elastic and unique adhesive cotton tape alongside specialist Kinesio applications, the method involves taping over and around muscles to give support, without affecting circulation or range of motion. KinesioTaping can also prevent overuse or over-contraction. Another highly successful application method alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. The taped area forms convolutions – increasing interstitial space. Pressure is taken off neural and sensory receptors, alleviating pain. Pressure is also taken off the lymphatic system, allowing it to channel more freely. It is being used by top athletes recently due to its ability to let them perform at their max without negative effects to the muscles.
Although Kinesio Tape can be purchased in some chemists, it is recommended to have it applied by a certified practitioner as putting it on incorrect can cause injury. Dr Danielle Hurley is a registered KinesioTape practitioner.
This hand held instrument is used in some circumstances instead of the Chiropractors hands to adjust the spinal joints. The Activator is great for those who are nervous patients or who really are uncomfortable with the “popping” sensation. Some Chiropractors choose to use only this instrument within their clinic, that is how great it is!
Acupuncture is a collection of procedures involving penetration of the skin with needles to stimulate certain points on the body. Acupuncture is relatively safe when administered by qualified practitioners using sterile needles and carries a very low risk of serious adverse effects. At Absolute Chiropractic we mainly specialise in the Dry Needling from of Acupuncture, this refers to using the needles to aid in healing the muscles.
Using massage techniques to increase lymphatic flow and decrease adhesions that form in overused muscles. At Absolute Chiropractic we do not always perform deep tissue massage as in many cases this would be a not be suitable in some circumstances. The depth of the massage is performed in conjunction with the current state of the muscle, therefore letting the muscle heal adequately.
For those who need very deep tissue massage of course we can accommodate that.
Active Release Technique is most commonly used to treat conditions related to adhesions or scar tissue in overused muscles. As adhesions build up, muscles become shorter and weaker, the motion of muscles and joints are altered, and nerves can be compressed. As a result, tissues suffer from decreased blood supply, pain, and poor mobility. This technique of working with the muscles is great to alleviate the muscles of the adhesions and be able to begin rehabilitation on nice healthy muscles.
At Absolute Chiropractic we believe in educating and training our patients in how to use exercises to keep their body strong and more importantly how to understand muscle imbalances. Every patient would get a personalised exercise program to suit their needs in order to help rebuild the muscles that have become de-conditioned due to injury and pain.
